Why do smokers think they deserve special privedges at the workplace?
Most take 2-6 extra breaks a day, accounting for more than 216 hrs a yr in lost productivity. Should they haev to clock out for this?
Yes. I smoke and I think that if you are going to smoke, it needs to be on your designated break unless your employer is fine with you stepping out for 5 mins every hour or so.
Most of the time wasted is people talking to each other while on smoke break. So given that, we need to also examine how much time is wasted on people that mingle with others at work.
No talking…back to work.

I know hundreds of smokers with jobs and I don’t know one who thinks he/she deserves special priviledges. If you think you know someone who feels that way, ask that person.

Yes, they should have to clock out for that.
I haven’t known or worked with any smokers that thought they deserved special priviledges in the workplace. Maybe you are just overly sensitive. Generally a company’s policies on breaks is quite clear and doesn’t allow for an employee to take "2-6 extra breaks a day".

Hi Gambit
I totally agree with you. Before I retired I negotiated with non smoking colleagues how many minutes I would deduct from my lunch break to allow for the occasional smoke.
The other thing I object to is the bunch of smokers standing outside a building which means the non smoker must walk through a wall of smoke to access the building. Totally irresponsible.
