Did affirmative action destroy the work ethic, productivity and pride that American workers had prior to 1964?

Not in itself… But affirmative action as well as other issues such as environmental laws, lawsuits, and labor Unions did provide a cost analysis basis for large companies to begin to look for less restrictive countries to work from.

As typical blue collar jobs (manufacturing, mining,…) disappeared due in part to government restrictions. American workers had hard choices to make none of which were good for the moral, pride of the American workforce…

Of course this is still with us today. The days of spending 20 years with a company and retiring with a decent pension and health care have all but disappeared. As such we now see more and more Urban Blight due to low paying jobs with no real benefits.

There used to be decent jobs that a high school graduate could walk right into and expect to make enough to raise a family and to expect a nice happy retirement with pension and SSI in hand.

Not any more due the exportation of American Industries, and technologies. Look at NAFTA for example; while providing America with cheaper goods it also hurt Americans in lower income brackets because many comapnies closed up shop in the United States and moved operations over the border to Mexico which provides Mexico with a new tax base as well as better employment opportunties for its middle class citizens.

Obviously American workers who were laid off during the rash of plant closings when NAFTA was signed felt betrayed. As such morale declined. s history has proven when morale declines so does productivity, pride, and work ethics…
