Does anybody see a connection between illegal immigrants and decreased productivity of the U.S.?
My personal view on the subject is that immigration has gotten out of hand and the biggest difference that I can see (at least in the cities) is that immigrants today utilize US markets for profit and export that profit out of our country, whilst immigrants of old came here and stayed here and spent their profits here. Just looking for any views on the subject. Thanks.
This is a very simplistic view of how immigration works and the effects it has on the US.
For many years and even today immigration builds this country. The fact that some send money home is insignificant because very few ever make enough that they can afford to send more than they earn and most never earn enough to send any at all. Some will live in bad conditions, but most won’t.’

It might just change how you look at immigration in the US.

Maybe the difference between when they came to stay and now they send money home is that we let other immigrants stay. The Italians, the Irish, all the waves of immigrants were accepted into the country, but now as we have developed a more separatist view.
Many Mexicans I know would likely stay and bring their families to America, yet since they are illegal, they come for several years and send money home to build a life for themselves and their families when they return.

You do realize that the drop in production coincided with a huge decrease in the number of illegal immigrants coming into America, as well as a rather large export of illegal immigrants out of the country by their own choosing.
So if you do see a correlation between the two, then that would mean that our production drops when illegal immigrants LEAVE the country, not when they come in…
I don’t see a connection myself. But if you do, then it would actually prove that we need them here, and should not be tossing them out.

Ya "illegal immigration" does have a negative effect, but that is why immigration laws must be reform to fit the need for workers and what is fare to those already here and actually helping the economy grow
