GauchoTV: Free Online Productivity Tools
Hey Gauchos, does it make your blood boil to think about how much money guys like Bill Gates have that you do NOT have? I know it really makes mine boil. So maybe you’ve recently got a new computer, and maybe you even got a great deal on it. But now you need some kind of word processor application so you can be productive. Does this mean you are going to move more money from out of your pocket and into Bill Gates? If you buy Microsoft Word, then the answer is a resounding yes. Alas, Gauchos, I have good news. You do not have to buy Office to get things done on your computer. It’s true! There are FREE options out there, and you can use them!
This week’s GauchoTV is focused on free online productivity tools. I take a look at three very popular options. OpenOffice.org, ThinkFree Office and Google Docs. Each one has pros and cons. OpenOffice is a downloadable program that has a word processor, spreadsheet, etc. ThinkFree has those things, but is kind of half on your computer, half online. Then Google Docs is all online. Watch and find out which is best for what you do. And what if none of them can satisfy your needs? Prepare to feel the pain of further lining Bill Gates’ pockets.
Also in this episode: I show you the top five ways to save money while gardening. I bet you that I can find a way to work funeral homes into it. (Hint: I will win this bet.) Distributed by Tubemogul.

2 many questions for 2 points.
Efficient vs. Sufficient?
My boyfriend has a tendency to mix up words. And now he has me confused! I know the difference between Efficient and Sufficient but get confused when putting them in a context. For example, we are trying to budget how much money we can afford to put toward buying him tools for work/month. The sentence was "I think $100 a month would be efficient." I think it would be "sufficient" but could "efficient" work in the context of trying to make the most of our money/productivity-like? Could someone explain the differences between these two words in terms of context and tell me if there are times where either word would work?
Think of it this way: if you are efficient (and spend your money wisely), $100 will be sufficient. If you are inefficient, $100 will be insufficient.
So, efficiency describes YOU (the user of the resource) and sufficiency describes the resource itself.

You’re kidding me, right?
Yahoo!’s story on gossip being good at work: http://hotjobs.yahoo.com/jobseeker/tools/ept/careerArticlesPost.html?post=72
Online Webster’s Dictionary definition of gossip: http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary
I dunno who assigned or approved of Margaret Steen to write about this, but frankly, this is a ridiculous story and consideration. Coworkers are supposed to get along and get the job done while remaining professional and gossip never EVER helps. If there’s something to be said about someone else’s behavior or a trend within or beyond the office, it should be said openly to everyone or personally to your superior. Period. There’s nothing worse for a supervisor or a boss than to clean up a social mess because of how someone happened to start some mindless immature rumor around the workplace . Gossip ruins productivity and creates unnecessary rivalries and tension where it should never ever occur.
With regards to how Margaret defines good gossip, these parameters should be used instead on how to define whether or not something should be talked about at all. If you’re intent is well-meant, if you’re just trying to be helpful, or you’re trying to prevent an odd form of confrontation, then you should be willing to talk openly about it in the first place. Again, we’re all responsible for being responsible at the workplace which means minding EVERYBODY’s feelings and relations. If you wanna be a little more friendly with some more than others, that’s fine. Just do that on your own time and beyond the confines of the office or workplace.

What you’re talking about and what the story is talking about seem a little different. The story mentions helping new hires acclimate by telling them "don’t be late to so-and-so’s meeting because they won’t like it" or making the boss seem more human by relating how he/she doesn’t grill out very well. In neither case is it malicious to spread those things. It would, however, be very different if you were explaining how so-and-so has a three-martini lunch on a regular basis. According to the story, anything spread for personal gain or to put someone else down is bad.
