Is sunlight scientifically proven to increase work productivity?

Would I work faster if I worked near a sunny window as opposed to a room without natural light? Why is this statement true? What other health benefits does the sun offer?

well giving the fact that our body does need vitamin C for our bones and with poor bone health our work productivity would decrease.

why can productivity be a source of conflict between management and workers?

Assume both workers and managers wish to be productive. However, often management design and implement policies that impede worker productivity due to lack of operational knowledge, sheer arrogance, or other factors. Workers and managers often have differing viewpoints on how to achieve productivity. Managers may not consult with workers for their input. Workers can sometimes feel helpless. Managers assume responsibility for others whereas workers assume responsibility for themselves only. Ideally managers will solicit input from workers in forming their decisions but ultimately the decision rests with managers who are held accountable. Workers even when consulted may not agree with a decision made but are expected to follow it even if they are indeed correct and the wrong path has been taken.

Is it accurate to compare economic performance of administrations outside the context of Fed policy?

I sometimes see people argue that "oh, under LBJ things were great, look at the numbers" but look where the numbers WENT – comparing the economic performance when LBJ was in the WH without looking at the 1970s is like saying oh, I felt great last night when I was drinking that Chivas, but this morning I feel lousy, it must be the company!

Similarly I see people compare Bush ‘43 to Clinton – - – the Fed was very accommodating in the 1990s – I think it almost had to be since all the productivity improvements resulting from free trade were driving down real prices, and the Fed wanted to avoid over-reaching, which it did in ‘87 and ‘90 – but the point still stands, that at least for 2005 and 2006 Fed policy was neutral to somewhat restrictive, yet the economy is quite stable – we continue to have low unemployment and low inflation.

I would argue that you need to compare a runner’s speed in the context of whether he’s going uphill or downhill, and the Fed controls that!

No – but it IS accurate to say some people have no friggin clue what they’re talking about.

Even your bunkmates have no idea.

How phony is performance management ?

Movie from France, early ‘90’s.
Auditors came in to a factory, did performance management, Recommended redundancies for some staff.
Turned out they were in on a secret plot to take over the company.

Someone told me this about "performance management" :
"They are just another group of non productive parasites trying to justify their existence. They don’t produce or manufacture anything other than misery and mistrust. They move in, do a study and recommend the termination of some poor sap trying to pay his mortgage, all because they need to justify existing. Another genius ploy with great marketing to impress the CEO. The company then has more administration than productive workers, is top heavy and turns turtle, belly up. Been there, seen that. "

Ever seen the movie Office Space?

Some universities attempt to increase the productivity of professors by having courses taught online. This is?

Q:Some universities attempt to increase the productivity of professors by having courses taught online. This is an example of which determinant of productivity?
A. Technological knowledge

B. Human capital

C. Physical capital

D. Natural resources
the answer is either A or B .I’m not sure

None of the above.

There is no reason to believe that professors are more productive when they teach on-line.

It is the case that they can reach more students, but each student has a lower-quality experience.

Online courses are on the spectrum from 1-on-1 tutorials to writing books. The students who do get to spend significant time working 1-on-1 with good teachers surely learn more than those just spend the same time attending lectures, watching on-line courses, or reading books. On the other hand, a single professor can’t influence as many students working with them 1-on-1 as s/he can writing a book.

So how are you going to measure productivity? Surely it is some combination of quantity and quality, but the optimum is by no means clear.

Also, there is every reason to believe it varies from subject to subject. How much acting are you going to learn watching an on-line course, as opposed to working in a class where you can received immediate feedback? Do you really think you can learn to play a musical instrument though an on-line course? On the other hand, my first year economics lectures were a real bore – just repeating what the book said. I wouldn’t even waste time on watching videos of them.

how will cell phones increase employee productivity?

how will cell phones increase employee productivity?

Cell phones alone will not increase productivity that much. A Blackberry or similar devices however will increase productivity by ten folds. An employee can reached by e-mail, phone or by text message when he is on the way to a meeting, in a meeting, on his/her way to work, etc. You can be in a meeting and check your calendar along with someone’s calendar to set up a meeting. You can send a text to your employee and ask for a quick yes or know. You can send a map to your employee’s phone and have him/her meet you somewhere for an impromptu meeting before the employee gets to work to save time and fuel. Not to mention, you can take pictures of things and show it to your organization about your sudden encounter with something that may change your organization’s goals.
